The average woman

Two of the biggest lies and deceptions in our society's way of thinking is that all of us, but especially women, have tremendous "potential" that simply must be realised and that being average isn't acceptable: we must be GREAT! This causes two problems!

First, women are deceived into thinking they are one of the elite, the few, the special. They believe that they are of higher quality due to their spiritual status and calling in society! They believe to be the only ones that society deems successful, powerful and valuable. We run into trouble when we're operating under a set of false beliefs that don't coincide with the Word of God!

Reality, though, is that most women are ordinary, myself being one of the many. All of us are uniquely created and gifted by God! God makes no distinction between us (Acts 15:9) for there is no partiality with God (Romans 2:11). Let's not forget that "a man’s pride will bring him low, but the humble in spirit will retain honor." (Prov 29:23) We must humble ourselves in the sight of the Lord, and only then He will lift us up (James 4:10)

Consequently, many women are operating under unrealistically high expectations of themselves. When God does NOT deliver on their hopes, whether they be student of the year, getting into a prestige university and becoming a doctor or a lawyer, having a 'perfect' body image and marrying the 'perfect' man, having the 'perfect' family and career by becoming a CEO earning top dollar, women are set up for major disappointment. This proverb describe these type of women accurately: "Just being a cog in the wheel of your own small world isn't enough!"

This brings us to the second problem. A lot of women beat themselves up for not accomplishing their dreams & desires and their splendid greatness. Instead of investing their energy and strength in doing well those things they can do, they grieve WHAT and WHO they are not! Just being skillful and fruitful with God's given talent is not enough if they are not the best in everything else! By God's grace each one of us have been given various gifts, according to the measure of our faith (Romans 12:6-7). At the same time, let each one remain in the same calling in which we was called (1 Corinthians 7:20) Amen! May the Lord help us!

Romans 12:3 tells us: "Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought." Rather than worrying about our unrealised potential for some sort of nebulous greatness, we ought to be concerned about repenting, about our relationship with God and people, our spiritual life, about being holy, faithful and obedient in the things God has given us to do, trusting Him for the ultimate results. And we ought to not worry about being ordinary as if there were some stigma to it. Scripture says that God is pleased to use ordinary, weak and insignificant people, because that's how His power is seen and He gets the most glory. (Read 1 Corinthians 1:26-31.) There is privilege and honor in being an ordinary, weak and sinful person in the hand of an extraordinary, powerful and holy God! Hallelujah! To God be all the glory, honor and majesty!
